A Dazzling Opening

The eyes of the world are watching the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing today.  In a  breathtaking display of beauty, art, symbolism, and technology, the Chinese really put on a show.

Am I the only weirdo who cried a little bit?

Our family is most looking forward to the gymnastics, swimming, diving, and track and field events.

What are you looking forward to?

  1. I love the gymnastics! I’m always glued to the TV for that.

  2. I cried! I visited Beijing 25 years ago and long to return; it ‘s a magical place. It was a stunning opening to the games. 🙂

  3. Kiddo wants to see boxing, javelin, diving, table tennis, and men’s gymnastics. I want to see all that plus running and swimming. Pretty much we want to see ALL of it!

Th opening ceremony was FANTASTIC! I love the story of Lin Ho … that part did make me cry a bit when I explained it to hubby (he missed Lin Ho’s story).

  4. Our household is a bit more excited about preseason football. No Olympics for us.

  5. I totally cried too!!! Those drummers were just breathtaking with their percision and the lights and fireworks were incredible. I think I could here them here in Okinawa! 🙂

  6. I absolutely loved the drummers. I’m so excited about this time around because my daughters are both into gymnastics and can’t wait to watch that with me. I have so many fond memories of watching the Olympics while bonding with my mother. It’s nice to have that come full circle.

  7. I’m most looking forward to the track and field events.

My oldes daughter will enjoy pretty much all of it and I’m hoping my three year-old will watch the gymnastics since she started taking classes last spring.

  8. Equestrian events!!! 🙂 (and preseason football, too…)

  9. Ruth, I think gymnastics are my favorite too.

Heidi, oh good! I’m not the only weirdo! I would love to go there someday. My soon-to-be sister in law is Chinese and she and my brother visited last year. The pictures were incredible.

Heather- Lin Ho is the cutest thing and what a story! That didn’t make me cry though. For some reason it was the drums and the little girl flying through the air with the kite. (There’s no logical reason, it was just so beautiful).

Jill, one fourth of my family would agree with you! Good thing we have more than one tv!

    Karen, YEAH another weirdo!!

Jennifer, my oldest does gymnastics too and she doesn’t really remember the last summer Olympics. I can’t wait to watch with my kids. I also have fond memories of watching with my mom.

Shana, you might want to tape it for the 3 year old. So many of the popular events come on so late at night!

Kristen, why am I not surprised?? 🙂

  10. Gymnastics, definitely! I love seeing a bunch of people smaller than me!
