Book Blogger Appreciation Week Awards: Time to VOTE!

My Friend Amy (she isn’t really my friend, although I do like her- that’s just the name of her blog) has posted the list of awards finalists for her Book Blogger Appreciaton Week.  Get ready to cast your votes over at Amy’s blog!

Thanks to all my fans!

Thanks to all my fans!

The list of nominees and categories is really long, so I won’t copy it here, but go visit Amy and check it out. I was quite shocked and thrilled to see my blog’s name on the list, in 2 different categories- Best Book Club Blog and Best Design (brag, brag, boast, boast!)  Sorry, I know that’s obnoxious, I’m just so excited!  I’m sure the other nominees will blow me right out of the water, but it’s an honor just to be nominated, right?  RIGHT?  Geez, I have to decide what to wear on the red carpet.  And get my roots done.  And go to the gym!  And my toenails need some work!  Maybe I can borrow some sexy shoes and some bling bling to go with my dress.  I wonder if there will be champagne and paparazzi..  yeah, a girl can dream, right?

Along with my own blog, Books on the Brain (Braggy McBragger), I’m also pleased to see several blogs that I’ve never had the pleasure to visit, along with so many of my bloggy friends and favorites.  I’ll be adding a few more blogs to my Google Reader, I’m sure.

Go see My Friend Amy and vote for your favorites [[subliminal message—>Books on the Brain is my favorite book blog]]!  The winners will be announced on September 18th.

TXT2PIC is 2KEWL

Oh my, I am having entirely too much fun at this new (to me) website I’ve discovered, txt2pic.com.  I’ve spent the last half hour playing around, and look what I’ve come up with!

Calling all Book Bloggers

Being somewhat new to the world of book blogs, I was pleasantly surprised to learn how easy it is to snag free books.  There are so many contests and giveaways all over the web, and who doesn’t want more reading material, especially if it’s free?  In the past few months I’ve signed up for dozens of contests and giveaways, and won many of them.  Must be the luck o’ the Irish (Happy St. Patty’s Day, by the way!)

Well, I’ve discovered that publicists, publishers, distributors and authors are just as eager (if not more so) to give me their books as I am to receive them.  Why me? Because I am an enthusiastic reader who loves to share what I read on my blog. Free books+Free promotion= win/win situation!

Lisa Roe is an online publicist who loves her job.  She spends a portion of each day checking out book blogs (wait, I do that, too.. and she’s getting paid.. I want her job!)  She loves to read and is dedicated to getting books into the hands of bloggers.  The internet has changed the way publicists publicize.  Online promotion is the cutting edge of getting the word out about new books.

Lisa is taking a creative approach by actively seeking out book bloggers to read and review the books she is promoting. She’s inviting book bloggers to take a look at her brand new website.  If you see a title there that fits the content of your blog, she will send it to you to read and review.  She is also open to the possibility of book giveaways, contest, author interviews and guest posts on your blog (whatever it takes to promote those books!)

She has a mix of fiction and non fiction titles to choose from.  Even though I normally read fiction, one title that caught my eye is:  STAY HEALTHY, LIVE LONGER, SPEND WISELY by Davis, M.D. Liu : Written by a practicing family physician employed by one of the nation’s top healthcare organizations, this book provides critical information readers need to make intelligent medical and financial decisions to not only increase their chances for good health but also to get the most value out of their healthcare dollars. It is the only book that simultaneously tackles both the medical and financial perspective of staying healthy. Stay Healthy, Live Longer, Spend Wisely

Go check out Lisa’s site and send her an email if you’re interested in reading and reviewing one of the titles she’s promoting.  She’ll send you the book.  For free.  Yes, I do so love a free book!

Coach Purse Giveaway!

CurlyWurlyGurly is doing an experiment.  She’s giving away a Coach purse as a way to promote her blog and get more traffic.  I don’t mind being her guinea pig.. what about you?

  Here’s a picture for you.

6 Word Memoir Meme

Bookbabie tagged me for an interesting meme that is not as easy as it sounds. I had to give it quite a bit of thought. She writes:

As I read yet another book review of a memoir this weekend, my husband told me that I should write one. I said that my story would be much too short and rather boring so when I ran across the following book I decided it was just my speed. A six word memoir! Written by Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser, Not Quite What I was Expecting: Six Word Memoirs by Famous and Obscure is a compilation based on the story that Hemingway once bet ten dollars that he could sum up his life in six words. His words were- For Sale: baby shoes, never worn. There’s a video on Amazon with examples from the book, it sounds like a fun read! I’d like to start a six word memoir meme and here are the rules:

1. Write your own six word memoir

2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like

3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere

4 .Tag five more blogs with links

5. And don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ok, I toyed with several possible answers to this. Some of the rejects are:

1. Busy mom barely holding things together.

2. Four decades went by too quickly.

3. Where the hell are my keys?

4. Stop crying and do your homework!

5. My brain functioned better before kids.

6. You want me to do WHAT?

After much thought, I landed on the following (drumroll, please):

Searching for happiness in ordinary moments.

That about sums up my life, at least the last 10 years of it as a stay at home parent.

I’m going to tag: SoftdrinkTrishStephaniePatti, and Care.

I would also be interested in knowing YOUR 6 Word Memoir, so consider yourself tagged!

What’s in a Name Reading Challenge

What’s in a Name?

Annie is hosting a creative reading challenge for 2008. It’s called What’s in a Name? and the six selections for the challenge must contain a specific element in the title:

  • A book with a first name in its title
  • A book with a place in its title
  • A book with a weather event in its title
  • A book with a plant in its title

These are my picks:

1. A book with a color in its title.
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant

2. A book with an animal in its title.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon

3. A book with a first name in its title.
We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver

4. A book with a place in its title.

I’m new to challenges.. I wonder if it’s cool to read the same book for 2 different challenges.. can anyone tell me?

How to Increase Your Blog Hits

Blogging is new to me. I haven’t learned the lingo. I don’t know the etiquette. I don’t know what a meme is (Do I want one? Do I need one? Is it fattening?) What is the deal with bloggers giving other bloggers awards? No one has challenged me, or tagged me, or whatever it is people do. I’m totally winging it.

Someone told me recently that I could increase my blog hits with an intriguing title on my entries. Hmmmm. This one might get noticed. I guess we’ll see how it works.

Speaking of blog hits, I seem to be getting a lot (I guess). What is a lot? How many do other people get?

What is up with my obsessive desire to check my stats? How I love to see the blog stat graph go up, up, up. Is this normal? Why do I care? Do other bloggers do that? Will the obsession wear off soon????

Experienced bloggers, I would love to hear from you. I’m hoping my insanity is only temporary.
