Trish recently pointed out how two different books used the exact same clip art on their covers. It got me thinking about other books I’ve seen recently that have similar covers. While these aren’t exactly the same, there’s enough similarity to make you wonder why they did it. Here are a few examples:

Although the colours are not the same, the cover to The Richest Season is very similar to the one for Astrid and Veronika.
The three-handed cover is great!
Avisannschlld (did I spell that right??) – Good one! I’ve seen that around a lot. There’s another one I was looking for- can’t remember the title- but it’s two hands cupped together like that with red jelly-looking hearts in them. I’ve seen it on several blogs but can’t think of the title. Anybody know what I’m talking about?
Almost! (It’s “child” at the end, as in “Ann’s child” all stuck together.) Thanks, by the way, for pointing out the similarity between the covers for The Wednesday Sisters and The Secret Life of Bees. I hadn’t noticed the similarity consciously, but I did think to myself that readers of one would probably enjoy the other, and now I wonder if the idea came to me in part because of the covers…

Two sets of books with the same image.
That last one with the hands is hilarious! I just realized that the cover of Animal Vegetable Miracle has two hands cupping some dry beans- just like one above the apple!
These two are alike in theme:
The Gargoyle and an early copy of Perfume.
It seems I’ve seen a few with the back of a woman’s head and a braid hanging down too. Also I’ve seen more than one cover with a pair of tiny little shoes. Now I’ll have to go out and hunt those down.
Wooo boy! This has been driving me a little cookoo lately! Images of just legs and/or feet/shoes: Love Walked In; A Summer Affair; Tenth Circle . . . There are really so many, I was wondering if someone has a foot fetish!
And then there are the backs of girls walking/running away: Whistling After Dark; Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes; When Will There Be Good News . . .
And very recently : The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society; The Septembers of Shiraz
The hand thing, though, I’ve seen that . . . it’s weird.
Another one would be close-ups of women in older paintings with their faces off center so you only see half of the face. I also had noticed lately the abundance of images of the backs of women’s or girls’ heads. Book covers are trendy like anything else on the market nowadays.

Wasn’t it just a few years ago that every fourth book had a black and white photograph of an empty boat dock going out into a lake of still water?
I think when one cover sells, publishers start copying it like crazy.
