Tuesday Thingers

Library Thing’s Early Reviewers group has started a Tuesday meme called “Tuesday Thingers”.  Is it just me, or does that sound mildly pornographic?  No?  It’s just me then.  Clearly I need to get my mind out of the gutter!  So.  What’s a thinger?  It is a weekly meme, I guess, in which a question will be asked each Tuesday (hosted by Marie of The Boston Bibliophile) and then answered individually on the blogs of other Thingers from the Early Reviewers group.  I am relatively new to Library Thing, but I really like it, and I just snagged my first early review book (it was an April bonus selection and it arrived today.  Very exciting!)  So, without further ado,  here is this week’s topic:

Discussion groups. Do you belong to any (besides Early Reviewers)? Approximately how many? Are there any in particular that you participate in more avidly? How often do you check?

I only belong to 3 groups including Early Reviewers, and I’m not that active on any of them.  I used to be involved in several discussion groups but I cut my participation WAY back when I started blogging.  There are only so many hours in the day, and I felt that I wasn’t getting that much out of them.  Maybe I just haven’t found the right groups.

What about you?  Do you belong to any online discussion groups?  You don’t have to be a Thinger to answer that.

  1. Thank you so much for posting about this. I’ve been so busy lately I missed the Library Thing thread. I’ve added my blog over there and hope to hang with the discussion group when I get a chance. I only participate in one other discussion group (Barnes & Noble First Look), but I’m always reading to rant about anything bookish!

  2. Love your comment about the name, ha!

  3. Our neighborhood had a book club/group for several years, which fizzled out when two of us went back to school – like you said, only so many hours in a day. Our group was more of a bitch fest anyway (and only a few of us would actually read the books).

Both the other book-lovin’ neighbor and I decided to start one back up, but we’ve already set the tone that we are starting a ‘real’ book discussion group. Our group size is 12 (and doesn’t just include neighbors this time around) – we’ll see how it goes.

  4. I’m really disappointed we picked “Tuesday Thingers” as the name. I liked LT Tuesday or something more like that.

  5. Only so many hours in the day – how true! And I need more of those hours for reading. I really only keep track of the Early Reviewers group, but it seems pretty interesting so far.

And I don’t think it’s “just you” – the name does seem a little questionable.

  6. Hi,

I’m in one online discussion group right now. I visit pretty regularly but I spend most of my web time reading book blogs (such as yours!) or keeping my own up to date.

Discussion groups are a lot of work! You feel obligated to reply to that one post that has “0” comments and before you know it..the day is gone!

    Ti

  7. Devourer, I am also disappointed. I liked LT Tuesday as well. Darn democratic process!😉

I posted my response to the question at my updated blog:

  8. Groups are a lot of work! I post regularly on 2 internet forums as well as LT and it can be a lot of work catching up with everything.

My response is posted at my blog: http://aliveontheshelves.blogspot.com/2008/05/tuesday-thingers.html

  9. HA HA I agree about the name sounding slightly dirty.

  10. Hi my response is found by this link and yes you can spend so much time buying, swapping, reviewing, talking, cataloguing books that no reading takes place!

  11. I used to be a member of our local newspaper group, but it took so much time keeping up with it all. Then I started blogging and I enjoy that much more. I’d rather read my books and visit other bloggers web sites.

  12. Lol, about the name, I have to agree!🙂

  13. I hear you about so many hours in a day! I really shouldn’t spend so many of them on LibraryThing, I just can’t seem to help myself🙂

  14. Not enough time, sometimes I feel like the White Rabbit in Alice “I’m late, I’m late”. I try to curb my online time in forums as much as possible. So 50 Book Challenge, Early Reviewers and blogs for me.

  15. I used to do all kinds of Yahoo groups (one for classics, one for historical fiction, one for all genres) but when I started blogging, I pretty much stopped doing anything with the online groups. Sad.

  16. Thanks for all the comments, Thingers!!
